Chairman of Two Councils

Mr. Thomas Edward Prior, who passed away on February 4 was born at Penfield, near Salisbury in 1873. He was educated at the Salisbury school, and started his trade at a small engineering works st Salisbury. He later went to Gawler to join the firm of May Bros., where he spent 13 years. He arrived in Renmark in 1920 and started business on his own account. Elected to the district council he was chairman for two years. The Renmark business was sold and the family moved to Berri and built the present spacious garage and workshop where with his two sons he carried on the business until his death.

During his life in Berri Mr. Prior was a member of the District Council and had the distinction of also being chairman of the Berri District Council for a term. He was a Justice of the Peace for many years, and all his life has been a member of the Methodist Church. He had a wide circle of friends and is survived by a widow, three daughters and three sons, Rita (Mrs. C. V. Chambers, of Broken Hill), Lillian (Mrs. W. E. C Symons, of Renmark), and Alice (of Berri), Messrs. Prank and (Vivian (Berri), and Harold who is the Australian representative for Perkin Diesel Engines, and resides in Melbourne.
