CLARENDON: Tuesday, January 18. [Before Mr. R. C. Clarke and Mr. M. J. Kenihan.] Thomas Hobbs was charged under the Bush Fires Act that he did at Cherry Gardens light a fire without using the proper pre- cautions, and was fined £3, reduced to 30s., and costs 10s. *** Chronicle Saturday 22 January 189 MAGISTRATES' COURT CLARENDON. [Before Messrs. R. C. Clarke and M. Kenihan, J.P.'s.] Thomas Hobbs, of Almanda mine, was charged by M.C. Matthews with burning scrub contrary to the conditions of the Bush Fires Act at section 280, Cherry Gardens, and was fined £1 and costs 10s., or in default seven days' imprisonment. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hobbs of Cherry Gar- dens celebrated their golden wedding in the Rechabite Hall, Cherry Gardens recently. They were married by the Rev. J. Raymont, at Kan-garilla, in 1878. Mr Hobbs is a son of Mr. Enoch Hobbs, of Kangarilla, and Mrs Hobbs is a daughter of Mr. J. F. Clift, of McLaren Flat. There was a family of fourteen chil- dren, and the eleven surviving members were all present at the gathering. The toast of the "Happy Couple" was proposed by Mr. A. C. Thorpe, and supported by Messrs. F. Hobbs, A. Hobbs, Flinders Hobbs, and B. Brice. Mr. F. Hobbs, on behalf of the sons and daughters, presented their parents with an easy chair each. There are 44 grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren. Amongs those present were: —Mr. and Mrs. C. Rayner, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Hobbs, Mr. and Mrs. J. Rayner. Mr. and Mrs. R. J.     GOLDEN WEDDING. Two well-known residents, of Cherry Gardens, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hobbs, celebrated their golden wedding at the Rechabite Hall, Cherry Gardens recently. They were married by the Rev. J. Raymont, Wesleyan minister, at Kan- garilla, in 1878. Mr. Hobbs is a son of the late Mr. Enoch Hobbs, of Kangarilla, and Mrs. Hobbs, is a daughter of the late Mr. J. F. Clift, of McLaren Flat. There was a family of 14 children: the 11 sur viving members were all present to wish the old couple many, happy returns of the day. The evening was spent in dancing and games. The hall and supper tables were prettily decorated and ar ranged. A large wedding cake adorned the principal table. The toast of the happy couple was proposed by Mr. A. C. Thorpe, who expressed the best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs, sen., and trusted that there were many more years before them in which to enjoy life together. The toast was supported by Messrs. F. Hobbs, A. Hobbs, Flin Hobbs, and B. Brice. Mr F. Hobbs, on behalf of the sons and daughters, presented Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs each with an easy chair. Various other gifts were also received from the guests. Mr. Hobbs responded on behalf of himself and Mrs. Hobbs, and expressed their thanks and pleasure at seeing so many present. There are 14 grandchildren and seven great-grand- children. Among those present included:—Mr. and Mrs. C. Rayner and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Hobbs and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. Rayner and family.
